What's different about our approach? It comes down to four major things...
1
TAILORED TO
YOUR STUDENT
We work with parents to put together an individualized student plan - mixing and matching programs to create an approach that is tailored to each student's needs. Contact us to schedule a Free Consultation.
2
TAILORED TO NEIGHBORHOOD AREA
Our programs are designed to complement the curricula of local schools. With personal experience of local schools and Seattle School District's curricula, we are able to quickly fill in any gaps students may have, enabling students to meet and exceed Washington State and Common Core standards. For students at nearby language immersion schools, we explicitly tie the math terms they have learned in Spanish or Japanese to the equivalent concepts in English.
3
EVIDENCE-BASED
We collect and analyze data about the ways our students learn and use it to constantly improve our programs. We use a full set of research-based assessment tests to measure individual progress and fine-tune our approach.
4
PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING & MOTIVATION
We take advantage of a few simple principles of psychology to improve motivation and accelerate learning in our students.
-
People have different learning styles. An approach that works well for one type of learner might not work for others.
-
Incremental learning builds confidence and mastery and a sense of achievement - though not necessarily excitement.
-
What does build excitement about learning? Stretching for a new concept in the learning style that works best for you and engaging multiple parts of your brain.
-
People value what they create or invest some effort into more than what is handed to them.
-
Special materials and little rewards improve motivation for kids.
-
Teaching is a great way to learn.
-
Competition is motivating for some learners.
-
Short, daily practice is a better way to build understanding and retain knowledge than long, infrequent cram sessions.
